These are the intangibles that make a community...and a place called home. Today, strong, growing relationships have taken on a new value and a deeper meaning. That's why we founded Rivergreen Bank.
In March of 2002, a small group of Kennebunk citizens met for the first time to discuss establishing a new local bank in Kennebunk to provide truly local, personal service to members of the southern Maine communities. This group formed an organization to establish an innovative new bank featuring a unique service philosophy based on the concept that every employee is an owner.
On July 25, 2002, the bank founding organizers offered 400,000 shares of common stock, at $20 per share, to raise a minimum of $7.5 million to capitalize Rivergreen Bank, a name that was chosen based on the historical importance of the Kennebunk and Mousam rivers in building the coastal communities of southern Maine. The word "green" represents the founders hopes that the bank would become a gathering place for friends and neighbors, much like the colonial greens of days past. In less than eight months, the CAFG Board of Directors exceeded their capitalization goal and on March 13, 2003, Rivergreen Bank opened for business.
